NexPort LMS Addresses Security Concerns that Pose Primary Barrier to Online Education Programs in Correctional Facilities Washington, D.C., August 14, 2015 - NexPort Solutions, a leader in the highly secure learning management sector, was highlighted in a recent report by the U.S. Department of Education’s (USDOE) Office of Career, Technical and Adult Education (OCTAE) as a primary example of “Successes of Early Implementers” for online based educational programs in correctional facilities.
NexPort Solutions, in partnership with Smart Horizons Career Online Education(SHCOE), was cited in the USDOE report for providing a highly secure AdvancED/SACS accredited online high school diploma and entry-level workforce certificate program to incarcerated adult inmates within the Florida Department of Corrections (FLDOC). In 2012, SHCOE was launched in Florida’s state correctional facilities via the FLDOC Online Campus to help incarcerated individuals obtain their high school diplomas and entry-level workforce certificates, and to graduate with workforce skills that can be applied upon release. NexPort Solutions delivers the SHCOE curriculum by utilizing the Nexport Campus Learning Platform through a combination of Firewalls and Secure Socket Layer (SSL) communication. The report, titled “Educational Technology in Corrections 2015”, was released earlier this month (http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ovae/pi/AdultEd/policybriefedtech.pdf), and was designed to aid federal, state, and local corrections staff and correctional education administrators as they explore ways to use advanced technologies in corrections securely and cost-effectively. The USDOE report states the main barrier to more adoption of internet-based education at correctional facilities is the strict IT security requirements most correctional systems have in place. “Our customer-centered approach to software design allows the Nexport Campus Learning Platform to quickly add features for security and real-time reporting that meets the special needs of corrections professionals,” said Dr. Rob Miller, Chief Knowledge Officer. OKLAHOMA CITY - Aug. 11, 2015 – NexPort Solutions Group issued several new enhancements and features with today’s release of NexPort Campus version 5.3.0. NexPort Campus users are now able to assign a Primary Instructor Role. Primary instructors can be specified when a section has more than one instructor, allowing the primary instructor to alter settings other instructors cannot. Students can learn about their instructors with biographical information on the instructor’s profile, which is now viewable in the student’s classroom. Students may also message their instructor directly via the classroom by clicking on the instructor’s name, making communication to their instructor simple and accessible. In this release, instructors also received the ability to add assignment headers to the classroom, allowing instructors the ability to easily organize their assignments. Instructors can also make this viewable to only themselves or viewable to the students, as well. This can all be managed in the instructor’s classroom. Enhancements to the testing feature were also implemented in the NexPort Campus 5.3.0 release. Multi-choice questions and 5-point scale question types for question bank bulk upload are now available to users creating tests. Administrators with the Academic Override Permission can also authorize students to retake a test. Features were also developed for customer service.
