OKLAHOMA CITY - Aug. 11, 2015 – NexPort Solutions Group issued several new enhancements and features with today’s release of NexPort Campus version 5.3.0. NexPort Campus users are now able to assign a Primary Instructor Role. Primary instructors can be specified when a section has more than one instructor, allowing the primary instructor to alter settings other instructors cannot. Students can learn about their instructors with biographical information on the instructor’s profile, which is now viewable in the student’s classroom. Students may also message their instructor directly via the classroom by clicking on the instructor’s name, making communication to their instructor simple and accessible. In this release, instructors also received the ability to add assignment headers to the classroom, allowing instructors the ability to easily organize their assignments. Instructors can also make this viewable to only themselves or viewable to the students, as well. This can all be managed in the instructor’s classroom. Enhancements to the testing feature were also implemented in the NexPort Campus 5.3.0 release. Multi-choice questions and 5-point scale question types for question bank bulk upload are now available to users creating tests. Administrators with the Academic Override Permission can also authorize students to retake a test. Features were also developed for customer service. Customer service representatives for your organization are now able to impersonate a user with the Login As feature. This allows customer service to view what the user is seeing and help them navigate and resolve the issue in a timely manner. Full Release NotesHere are the full release notes, by case, for 5.3.0:

NexPort Solutions released NexPort Campus v5.2.0 Thursday, offering a new WebApi, user interface enhancements and performance improvements that increased the general performance of the system, as well as several new features. In addition, NexPort is moving its underlying architecture away from Monorail MVC to the Microsoft MVC framework. Engineers have increased the speed of NexPort Campus by removing legacy code and refining the NexPort indexing engine.
Using the new NexPort WebApi, clients can now integrate their existing applications, websites and other systems directly with NexPort Campus. The NexPort WebApi is a secure, JSON based API. It is fully documented and provides access to many of the administrative and reporting features in NexPort Campus. Additional WebApi methods will be introduced in v.5.3.0. New features in this release also included ad hoc invoicing. Ad hoc invoicing means that administrators can now create and manage invoices. NexPort Campus’ Invoicing System is a key part of the newly introduced Point-of-Sale (PoS) model. The PoS model is designed to augment the existing Organizational model, allowing students to receive enrollments through a purchasing system, as well as the standard group membership system. Custom enrollment fields were also introduced in 5.2.0. Custom enrollments provide administrators and other users with permission to gather information for enrollments via the student input assignment in the classroom. Students will answer the questions, sending that information directly to the respective instructor or administrator requesting the information. The student input assignment also allows administrators and/or instructors to securely gather data for certificates and user profiles. While custom profile fields are not a new feature to v5.2.0, enhancements were made that introduced new profile field types. A new audit log feature tracks any action taken on the fields. Enhancements to tests and question banks provided users the ability to upload test questions in bulk from a supported file type, making the process of creating tests simpler and quicker. Tests can also now contain open-ended response questions and user-defined question IDs (a unique identifier for searching and sorting). Administrators can use tests from the current organization or a parent, as well. In addition, instructors can add feedback to test questions. This feedback can be shown either after each question is answered or at the end of the exam. Finally, NexPort Campus 5.2.0 represents NexPort Solutions’ continued commitment to providing our customers with the tools and technologies they require to meet the constantly evolving needs of their students. By Dr. Rob Miller Chief Knowledge Officer INTRODUCTIONThe previous post mentioned a vision for a family of interoperable products. Further clarification of that vision seems appropriate. First, do not assume that this is a pitch for “blended learning” technologies. It is my opinion (based on more than 30 years of instructional experience) that the “B-word” has become a hackneyed aphorism for throwing instructional products on the wall and hoping they stick. To quote the late General Norman Schwarzkopf, “Hope is not a plan.” Neither is it likely to be an effective instructional approach.

This partnership enables homeless youth and young adults, ages 18 to 23, to access SHCOE's leading-edge online courses through CHS's transitional living program. Headquartered in Port St. Lucie, Florida, the Treasure Coast CHS serves more than 12,000 youth and their families each year in Okeechobee, Martin, St. Lucie, and Indian River counties. The SHCOE program is available to the 150-200 young adults who participate annually in the transitional living program.
Treasure Coast CHS's transitional living clients reside in a youth transition center, located in Vero Beach, FL, where they complete their courses in an onsite learning lab. The program is also available to nonresidential clients, who can access their online courses from any computer. By Dr. Rob Miller Chief Knowledge Officer NexPort Solutions has come a long way from its rather humble beginnings in 2002. Back then, it was all we could do to keep the Distributed Content Management System (DCMS) up-and-running, and meeting customer requirements. However, the insights gained through that experience proved extremely valuable as we progressed from a hybridized platform to a model-view-controller architecture. With each release, NexPort matured and the NexPort Solutions organization matured with it. The pending release of NexPort 5.0 positions NexPort for compatibility with emerging technologies (e.g., cloud-based delivery, HTML5).
