NexPort Learning Management System — A Solution for Cameron University Employees
While still the chair of the Department of Multimedia Design, I was asked to develop Chemical Hygiene training for Cameron University employees, including student lab workers. This need was in response to a criticism about the lack of this particular mandatory training by one of our governing authorities. At the same time, Cameron University hired a new HR director who recognized that employee training, as a whole, was intermittent at best.
I have been designing and developing training commercially for over 20 years and, though not involved with employee training, was starting to come to the same conclusion as our new HR director. As well, I also foresaw that Cameron lacked a way to manage mandatory training so that we could assign it, see who was training, how long they took, what their score was, and etc. My experience told me that if we could not to that, there were potential litigation problems that could be costly. Using, our University’s student LMS was not a solution because it was not set up for employees. I have been using and assessing AST products for some time and knew about NexPort’s success with the Army Reserve and National Guard. After reviewing it, I knew that it was the answer to Cameron’s CMI problems. Set up is relatively simple.
Uploading e-learning products (SCORM and non-SCORM compliant) was the easiest I’ve ever experienced. I once uploaded 11 very large lessons at one time. They went into a queue and loaded in a short time. The system tracked users and issued specially designed certificates of completion. These were things that were not done in the past, even with the costly and intermittent face-to-face training that was happening. In fact, in the few cases where a certificate was not issued, workers began demanding them.
NexPort helped us automate HR training, provided essential CMI services and helped us improve the timeliness and quality of mandatory employee training.
